Arlene Francis Cripps
The Cripps family is deeply saddened to announce that their mother Arlene (nee O’Brien) Cripps of Miramichi (Chatham), NB passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 (one day before her 86th birthday).
Born in Loggieville, NB on May 31, 1937, Arlene was the seventh of eight children born to the late Edward and Lillian (nee Cameron) O’Brien, of Loggieville NB. Arlene is survived by her three daughters Rachel (Doug) Burns of Toronto, ON, Gail (Jack) Gould of Miramichi, NB, Joanne Cripps of Miramichi, NB; three grandsons Rob Forbes of Calgary, AB, Joshua Gould (Charlotte) of Stettler, AB, Justin Cripps (Ashley) of Hamilton, ON and four very special great grandchildren Amara, Owen, Alexis and Linden with one more on the way. Arlene also leaves behind one sister Margie MacDonald of Miramichi as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Benny Cripps in 2017 and her son Gary Cripps in 2022. She was also predeceased by brothers Benny, Bruce and Billy and sisters Catherine, Doris and Joyce.
Arlene was truly the family nucleus. Her family was the central focus of her life and she always was happiest when they were gathered around her. Mom was fiercely proud and protective of her four children. Her warmth, strength, generosity, selflessness and fighting spirit will always be remembered. Over the years, Mom’s kitchen was a gathering place for neighbours, friends and extended family who will always remember her smile, her kind heart, her welcoming embrace and her spirit to love life. Her door was open to all.
To say how truly loved our mother was would be an understatement as she always put others before herself. Together, Benny and Arlene shared a special bond where they lived life to the fullest and always had a sparkle in their eyes for each other. Their 61 year marriage is testament to their incredible devotion and enduring love for one another. We will tremendously miss her presence but we are comforted that she has rejoined her loved ones in Heaven. Mom will never be forgotten, she will be forever loved.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 at Maher’s funeral home at 2:00 p.m. with service to follow. For those who wish, donations in memory of Arlene may be made to the Miramichi SPCA.
Losing a mother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know but her goodness, her caring and her wisdom live on – like a legacy of love that will always be with us. May that love surround us now.
