It is with heavy hearts that the family of John (Johnny) Thomas McCormack announces his passing on Saturday June 25, 2022. John was born in Loggieville, NB to the late Joseph McCormack and Opal (Masterton) McCormack on September 20, 1943. He was 78 years old.
Johnny is survived by his four children: Carolyn (Shane Foster) of Brevard, North Carolina; Joyce (Geoff Goss) of Halifax; Timmy (Valerie) of Saint John; Kelly (Josef Mir) of Halifax. Also left to mourn are his 13 grandchildren: Aaron and Jaclyn (Carolyn); Jillian, Michael and Gregory (Joyce); Greg, Emily, Josh and Hanna (Timmy); Leah, Max, Nico and Alex (Kelly). He is also survived by his brothers Wavell (Angela) and Danny (Stephanie). He was predeceased by his wife Rita to whom he was married for 49 years; his five brothers: Terry, Bob, Hughie, Jimmy, and Charles, as well as four sisters: Isabel, Margaret, Inez and Joanne.
Johnny graduated from Loggieville High School in 1961. He attended St. Thomas University in Chatham, NB and then went on to NBCC in St. Andrews, NB where he graduated with a diploma in Electronics. He worked for NBTel/Aliant for 35 years and later for Teligent, a telecommunications company in Virginia and North Carolina for a few years.
Johnny will be greatly missed by his family. His proudest accomplishment was by far his children. He instilled in them a love of nature. He often took them on memorable outdoor adventures including: camping, hiking, fiddlehead and blueberry picking and snowmobiling. He was a true handyman, valued self -reliance and was an ardent proponent of a post- secondary education. Johnny had a great sense of humour, loved to joke around and have a good laugh.
A graveside service will be held on Friday July 29, 2022 at 4 pm at Saint Andrew’s Cemetery in Loggieville, NB. The service will be officiated by Father John Fraser. A reception will follow in Saint Andrew's Church Loggieville. Memorial donations can be made in Johnny’s name to the charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Maher’s Funeral Home, 35 University Avenue, Miramichi, NB.
We will miss you Dad- Carolyn, Joyce, Timmy and Kelly.
