It is with heavy hearts that we wish to announce the passing of Donna Marie Smith (née Kelly) – Born 31 July 1949 – Died 13 January 2022. Beloved wife of René Smith for 54 years, cherished mother to Cindy Beaton and husband Rod (Moncton), Tammy Graham and husband Paul (Beausejour, MB), Sherri Smith and husband Paul Garner (Riverview). She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren whom she treasured and had such pride for, Tyler and Coral Beaton, Kayleigh Graham and Cameron and Aiden Garner.
Donna is predeceased by her parents James and Catherine Kelly, sister Colleen, brother David and youngest daughter Tracy. She leaves behind her brothers Paul Kelly and Jimmy (Paula) Kelly, both of Loggieville, and sister Joan (Barry) Taylor of Halifax as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly and brought her great joy.
In her life, Donna went out of her way to make friends and touch people’s lives in small and large ways. Nothing made her happier than to know that some small kindness had made someone’s day or helped someone in need. She took a great deal of pride in preparing the food following the Remembrance Day ceremonies at the Loggieville Community Centre for many years.
Although Donna was born and raised in Loggieville, her life took her on a new adventure and travels when she married her husband René who had a long career in the military. They built a family and together they lived in several provinces across Canada as well as postings to Cyprus and Israel. Each new place brought new friends and new experiences which she cherished and reminisced about often.
The family would like to express the gratitude that we have for the kind and loving care and support that she received from the doctors, nurses, therapists and staff at the Miramichi Hospital on 2 West and 1 East as well as the Extra-Mural nurses and support care workers for her care at home in her final days. You are all very special people and the work you do every day is greatly appreciated.
A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday May 24, 2022 at 11:00am from Saint Andrew's Catholic Church, Loggieville N.B., with burial to follow at Saint Andrew's cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Lung Association or the Legion #3 Building Fund. We know that she would also appreciate small acts of kindness that can be spread throughout the community at this challenging time on her behalf.
