It is with heavy hearts we announce Joan Marie Cripps, beloved wife of the late Raymond Cripps, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Oct.19 at Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 86.

Born in Chatham, NB, Joan was the daughter of the late Reginald and Clara (Savoy) Duplessie.

Mom’s lifelong passion was her family. She was a devoted wife and mother to 13 children and was loved dearly. Growing up a Hiller, she had many fond memories of her friends around Farrah’s corner. Upon marrying Raymond in 1952, they started their family on Hill Street, then moved to St. Thomas St. in 1962 where she spent the next 58 years. Mom loved her St. Thomas St. extended family. In late 2019, she took up residence in Losier Hall.

A lifetime resident of Chatham, and later Miramichi, Mom was proud of her involvement in many community and Church committees as well as being the founding member of the Miramichi Purple Hat Ladies Tea Society.

Mom is survived by her daughters MaryRaye Crandall (Dale), Karen Stymiest (Billy), Aileen Murphy (Ronnie), Janet Aube (Percy), Lois Bourque (Pat), Priscilla Englund (Bud), Joan Dawson (James), Lynn Farrell (Jeff), and Patricia Guimond (Randy); her sons John (Debbie), Mark (Karen), Matthew (Karen), and David (Kim). She is also survived by 41 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister, Regina Gallant.

Besides her parents, Mom is predeceased by her husband Raymond, her granddaughter Nadine Aube, grandson Mark Bourque, brothers Lloyd and Wayne, and sisters Diane and BarbaraAnn.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Joe Rigley and the emergency department staff of Miramichi Regional Hospital. Special thanks to the staff and administration of Losier Hall, to Dr, Arthur Losier for her care while a resident there, and to Dr. Gerard Losier for the many years he cared for her as family physician.

There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11:00am at Saint Michael’s Basilica. As per provincial mandates and Church protocol, all attendees must present proof of vaccination, wear masks, and present identification.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to donate in Mom’s memory are asked to support a charity of one's choice or the Losier Family Foundation in assistance with their new Hospice. Donations can be made online at losierfoundation.com
