Laura Beatrice Blais

Laura Beatrice Blais passed away on August 25, 2021 in Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 93.
Laura was born in Chatham, NB on August 18, 1928. She is predeceased by her husband Robert Wilfred Blais, her mother and father: Caroline Moar and Philip Rogers; brothers: Harold, Tom, and Art; sisters: Jean and Phylis, son Philip John Blais, and daughter Linda Marie Hiemstra. Laura is survived by her grandchildren: Michelle Hiemstra, Mark Fry, and Jason Blais, great grandchildren Ethan Fry, Leland Fry, and Philip Blais, and sister, Mabel Clancy.

Laura was a hardworking woman, she was always busy doing things like weeding the garden, doing the house chores, cooking and serving all of the meals, she was also an avid baker. Baking bread, pies, cakes, cookies and every kind of square. She pickled beats, made dill and sweet pickles, relishes, and jams. She mended torn clothing, and knitted warm winter clothes for her children and grandchildren. Whether she was weeding the garden or busy in the kitchen she always made time for social visits. Within minutes of visitors arriving there would be hot tea and a variety of her yummy creations on the table. Laura also held various jobs throughout her life; working for a maker of fine dresses in Ottawa Ontario, and after returning to Miramichi she worked at the natural food store for years.

After her late husband Bob was honourably discharged from the service in 1980, They settled with their son Philip and Daughter Linda at their residence in Miramichi NB where Laura spent the remainder of her days.

Laura was 4 months away from celebrating her 70th wedding anniversary when her late husband passed away in April of 2021. Laura was a loyal woman with traditional values and a strong work ethic; she will be missed dearly by those survived by her.
Viewing: Tuesday, August 31 from 11:00am - 12:00pm at Maher’s funeral home.
Burial: A small Graveside service, reserved for close family and friends will take place in Saint Michael’s Cemetery in Miramichi NB.
