Hilda Dedam, of Esgenoôpetitj, NB passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at the age of 96.
Born in Listuguj, Que, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Ann (Metallic) Peter-Paul. She owed and operated Hilda Convenience Store until her retirement and then devoted her time knitting and quilting for her extended family.
She will be greatly missed by her three daughters: Nora (Late Eugene) Ward, Mary Ann (Ronald) Somerville, and Mavis (Late Percy) Mitchell all of Esgenoôpetitj; her sons: Alex (Rita) Dedam of Miramichi, Simon (Margaret) Dedam of Esgenoôpetitj; and daughter-in-law Jennifer (late Gene) Dedam of Miramichi. She is also survived by her granddaughter Colinda Dedam, whom she raised when her parents died in a tragic fire, and great grandson Frank Dedam who resided with his grandmother; grandchildren: Ashley, Bradley, Candace, Charlene, Clark, David, Dean, Derek, Desmond, Emily Francine, Holly, Jason Dedam, Jason Joe, Jennifer, Jeremy, Lips, Mark, Marna, Natalie, Noreen, Petrina, Rhonda, Samantha, Scott, Shannon, Treena, Wendall, Michelle, Dean, Jennifer, Jeremey, Noreen, Wendall; 67 great grandchildren, and 29 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Andrew W. Dedam; sons, Frank and Gene; and infant twins daughters Mary Jane and Mary; brother Alexander Peter-Paul, and her sister Charlotte Abram.
Visitation will be held at Maher’s Funeral Home on Sunday, March 21, from 2 to 6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place in Saint Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Esgenoôpetitj at 11:00 am Monday, March 22nd with Father Godwin Kalu officiating. Active pallbearers were: Bradley Somerville, Shannon Somerville, Elliot Somerville, Jason Dedam, Mark Dedam, and Everett Dedam.
Internment will take place at Saint Ann’s Cemetery later in the spring.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, Cancer Society, or a memorial of one's choice.
