Brian Alexander McNamara
Brian Alexander McNamara of Chatham, Miramichi City, passed away peacefully at home on May 30, 2019 after a multiyear battle with COPD.
He had many careers over his lifetime from plumbing, town manager of Port Au Port, Newfoundland, heavy water plant in Cape Breton and pulp mills in Nova Scotia, BC and finally Miramichi, NB
Brian was full of life, a practical joker and a magnet to children as he treated them with respect while getting down to their level.
He could tell a good story and sometimes embellished.
He was extremely generous and kind. He, while working in Cape Breton, became a Big Brother.
They had drifted apart and Brian and his little brother recently had contact with one another.
He, in his final years had TV as his main entertainment and did not like to miss Mass for Shut Inns or Jeopardy.
When asked recently how he would do against the latest hot winner, he said “I would give him a run for his money”
His pride and Joy was his son, Bobby.
He was extremely proud of Bobby who almost could do no wrong in Brian’s opinion.
Brian was born April 15, 1950 in Sydney, NS and lived until he was 8 in Lower River Inhabitants when the family moved to Halifax.
He attended St Patrick’s Boys School, St Joseph’s Junior High and St Pats High School.
Brian was predeceased by his parents David (Bert) and Marguerita (Rita) McNamara and his brother, Roger.
He is survived by his son Bobby, daughter in law Kassandra and 3 month old special granddaughter Aurora, Sisters Betty Verge, Halifax and Marguerite Dodge (Harold), Bedford as well as brothers Kevin, Gold River and Vince (Debbie) Lower Sackville.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and in particular his beloved niece Elizabeth Russell.
His family is greatly appreciative of the daily support given to Brian by his sister Betty who championed his needs with his home care agency, hospital, bank or whatever he needed including baking the special treats he requested.
We also want to thank the many caregivers who looked after him at home and physicians and staff of Miramichi Regional hospital who cared for him over the past several years and enabled him to live at home
According to his wishes Brian has been cremated.
