It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Roger Joseph Marquis on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the age of 83.
Born in Clair, NB, on April 23, 1936, Roger was the son of the late Aimé and Leana (Boucher) Marquis.
Roger married the love of his life, Rose, and together they devoted the next 60 years building a family, a business and remaining proud residents of Riverside Drive.
Roger served in the RCAF for 12 years before becoming the proprietor of the Texaco service station in Chatham.
He then went on to become the proud owner of the Morada Motel, for over 10 years, and the Portage Restaurant, for 40 years.
Dad was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, an avid Montréal Canadiens fan and enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time.
He will forever be remembered as an adoring husband and loving father with a great sense of humour, resolute work ethic and selfless generosity.
Roger is survived by one son, Ricky Marquis (Teri Daley); three daughters, Nancy Daley (Emery Perry), Mary MacDonald (Larry) and Cathy Jensen (Donald); five grandchildren, David, Michelle and Leah Marquis, Jennifer Daley and Ryan MacDonald; eight great-grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Jeanne Michaud, Rita Ouellette and Mona Nadeau.
In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by his loving wife, Rose; one brother, Gerry Marquis; 2 sisters, Thérèse Gagné and Rina Gagnon; and his beloved granddaughter Mandi Rose MacDonald.
Roger Joseph Marquis is resting at Maher’s Funeral Home Miramichi on Thursday May 23, 2019 from 2-4 pm & 7- 9 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 11 am from St. Michael’s Basilica with Fr. John Keoughan officiating.
