Margaret (Peggy) Smith

Margaret (Peggy) Smith (nee Whalen) of the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the age of 92.

Born in Chatham, she was the daughter of the late Caroline and George Whalen.

Mom's career was built from her joy of cooking and went well beyond her family kitchen. With Dad by her side, they operated both the Ferry Snack Bar and the Enclosure Canteen. She furthered her career at both the Dixie Lee and Portage Restaurants.

Mom always found time to play cards, rumolli, bingo and enjoyed bus trips with her senior friends.

Peggy will be deeply missed by her children, John, Colleen (Ken) Pozer, and Karen (Andy) Daley, along with her grandchildren; Brian, Trudy, Stacey, Adam, Kyle, Jeffrey, Stanley and step-grandchildren. Her memory will also be cherished by brothers Billy and Neddy, sisters; Gertie and Kay, and daughters-in-law, Christine and Donna.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Fred, sons Tony and Terry, as well as sisters Mary, Nina and Betty and brother Aubrey.

Visitation will take place at Maher's Funeral Home, Miramichi NB, on Sunday November 11, 2018 from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 12th, 2018 at 11:00am from Saint Michael's Basilica with Fr. Paul Doucet officiating.

As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home or to St. Michael's Capital Campaign.
