Bernard (Ben) Bischoff

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernard (Ben) Bischoff, 82, of Miramichi, N.B. on Tuesday July 31, 2018 at his residence.
Ben was born in Leader Saskatchewan, the son of the late John and Irene (Grimm) Bischoff. His first years were spent on the family farm and he spoke fondly of his enjoyment of growing up in the Fox Valley and Linacre areas. This is where his passion for music and art surfaced. He and his brothers Aloys and Len formed a band and in their spare time treasured entertaining the family as well as friends at local events. He became a very accomplished artist but always stayed humble about his talent. He was particularly adept at portraying wildlife in natural settings.
He later moved to Calgary Alberta where he worked in construction, then for 25 years as a custodian for the Calgary Separate School Board. While in Calgary he pursued his painting, played a wide variety of instruments, and was part of a Barbershop singing group which travelled extensively.
Ben moved to Miramichi after retiring and quickly embraced it’s musical community and successfully continued his artistic endeavors. His best times were spent singing and playing any instrument he put his hands on for the enjoyment of others at various jams and kitchen parties.
Ben is survived by his wife Diana (Mills), daughter: Germaine of Calgary, step- children: Kenneth of Saint John, Thomas of Bahamas, Anastasia of Saint John, Stefan (Tamara) of Saint John, Two Grandchildren and one Great-Grandchild, four step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers: Aloys (Bernadette) of Richmound SK. Martin (Lucille) of Fox Valley SK, Patrick (Debbie) of Maple Creek SK, Jeffrey (Karen) of Cranbrook BC, and many nieces and nephews and extended family in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by his wives Faye (Wise) and Helen (Fleiger), brothers Nicholas and Leonard, and his sister Eleanor.
Following cremation visitation will be held from Maher's Funeral Home Miramichi o Sunday August 12, 2018 from 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday August 13, 2018 at 11am from the Bishop Rogers Chapel at St Michael's Basilica with Fr John Keoughan officiating. Interment will be in St Michael's Cemetery.
