Emerson John Schofield, husband of Marcia (Howard) passed away peacefully on Friday July 6, 2018 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family at the age of 91.
Emerson was born in Blackville, NB on September 1, 1926, the son of the late Burton and Annie (Dolan) Schofield.
Emerson was a veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of the Maritime Forest Ranger School. He was employed as a researcher with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans for 32 years.
During his life Emerson was never idle. He had a passion for hunting, fly fishing, curling, gardening and working on his woodlot, but his greatest joy was time spent with his family, particularly with his grandchildren and great grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face.
He was a member of St. Michael's Basilica, Knights of Columbus, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 3 Chatham and Chatham and Newcastle Omega Curling Clubs.
Emerson is survived by his wife Marcia of 66 years and four children; daughters Tanya Underhill (Paul), Megan Hudgins (Kevin), Carey Jane Trevors (Keith) and son Robert (Barb Moar) all of Miramichi, NB. He is also survived by one sister Betty Anne Gurney (Don), Paris, Ontario, two sisters-in-law Clara Miller and Ethel Schofield, five grandchildren; Jeremy, Josh (Elizabeth), Alisha, Colin and Spencer; three great grandchildren; Sophie, James, and Mary. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers and sisters Jane, Donald, Kathleen, Dennis, Lyman, Frederick, Everett, Harold and Ronnie. Emerson is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Emerson Schofield is resting at Maher's Funeral Home Miramichi, N.B. on Monday July 9th, 2018 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 11am from St. Michael's Basilica, Miramichi (Chatham) with Father Paul Doucet officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Michael's Capital Campaign or to a memorial of one's choice.
