Mary Katherine (MacDonald) Shanahan

Shanahan, Mary Katherine ( MacDonald) daughter or the late Edmund MacDonald and Nellie (Wallace) MacDonald passed away peacefully on April 5th,2018 at Turnbull Nursing Home in Saint John N.B. at the age of 97.
Mary is survived by two sons, Rob of Hamilton Ontario and Ralph of Saint John. One daughter, Marjorie Young (Doug) of Saint John. Two grandsons, Evan Young (Kristina) and Joel Young (Shelby) both of Saint John. Her sister and best friend, Frances Quinn of Hamilton Ontario, and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband Robert (Bert) Shanahan, siblings John, Bernie and Bertha.
Mary was born and grew up in Miramichi (Auburnville) NB. She graduated from N.B. Normal School in Fredericton in 1939 and afterwards taught at various schools in Miramichi area. She also ran the local post office from her home in St. Margaret's N.B. during her younger years. She enjoyed her trips to Ontario for visits with family there. She and her sister Frances continued to communicate by phone everyday until just recently when Mary's failing health got in the way of their conversations.
The family would like to send a sincere thank you to all of the staff at Turnbull Nursing Home for their great care and compassion. Also thank you to Monsignor Sheehan, and Fr Weir for their prayers.
Resting at Maher's Funeral Home in Miramichi with visitation on Sunday April 8th from 6pm to 9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Margaret's Roman Catholic Church in St Margaret's, N.B. on Monday April 9th at 11am with Fr Paul Doucet officiating.
