Clarence William (Junior) MacDonald (1939-2017)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clarence (Junior) MacDonald of Loggieville on September 22, 2017 at Eastside Special Care Home at the age of 78. Born in Loggieville on March 17, 1939, Junior was the son of Clarence and Effie (MacLean) MacDonald.

Junior was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He grew up being an elite athlete and passed on his love for sports to his children, grandchildren, and many of the children growing up in the Village of Loggieville.

He was a teammate and coach to many on various hockey, softball, baseball and bowling teams and he served as Mayor and councilor of the Village of Loggieville for 24 years.

Most important in Junior’s life was his family. He married the love of his life, Margie (O’Brien). Together they raised 6 children; Kim, of Miramichi, Larry (Mary) of Miramichi, , Vicky Malone (Jim) of Miramichi, Edward (deceased), Ricky (Judy) of Georgetown, ON and Derek (Brenda) of Miramichi. He was the proud grandfather to 6 grandchildren, Mandi Rose ( deceased), Ryan (Heather), Brad (Bryelle), Brett, Jake and Edward and 3 great grandchildren, Owen, Isaac, and Ivy.

Junior is survived by his sisters, Mona Bryenton of PEI and Ponsy Dickson of Miramichi and his brother Jim of Miramichi and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Clarence and Effie; his son Edward; his granddaughter Mandi Rose; six brothers, Byron, Alwyn, Raymond, Leonard, Mark and Windsor; four sisters, Thelma Stymiest, Effie Sinclair, Verna MacDonald and Faye Ross.

Junior’s family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful care and compassion provided by the staff at Eastside Special Care Home.

Visitation was held at Maher’s Funeral Home on Sunday, September 24 from 7-9 pm and on Monday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral services was held at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church in Loggieville (Miramichi East), NB at 11 am. With Fr. Leon Creamer & Fr. Dan Bastrache officiating, assisted by Fr. Charles Udeh and Fr. John Keoughan. Pallbearers were Larry MacDonald, Ryan MacDonald, Ricky MacDonald, Edward MacDonald, Derek MacDonald, Jake MacDonald, Jim Malone, and Brett Malone. Honorary Pallbearers were Donnie Ross, Eldon & Jean Jardine, Gordon & Ina MacLean, Abby & Theresa Traer, Jim & Paula Kelly, Paul kelly, Donna & Rene Smith, Joe & Irene Lang, Blair & Peggy LeBreton, Pete McLean, Raymond & Theresa McGrath, Eldon & Judy McGrath, Allan & Karen Stevens, Paul Doucette, Jack & Elsie Upham, Bart Moar, Stan Hennigan, Maurie Bell, Art Leggatt, Kenny Cripps, Barb McClenaghan, Staff of Eastside Special Care Home, Geraldine McIntyre, Stella Jardine, Margaret Hill, Chandra Lynch, and Kim Robichaud. Readers were Heather MacDonald & Brett Malone, Tribute to Junior by Connie Green & Derek MacDonald, Hymns were Into Your Hands, Make Me A Channel of Your Peace, Here I Am Lord, and How Great Thou Art by Singer Paula Kelly, on Guitar were Jimmy Kelly & Peter LeBelle with organist Norma Sugden. As an expression of sympathy, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Parkinson's Society, Hospice Miramichi, or to a memorial of one’s choice would be appreciated.
